Pair of Japanese imari vases, late Meiji (1868-1912), ovoid form with trumpet neck, decorated with gilded birds against prunus branches, in terracotta and underglaze blue, height 38.5cm

One of the vases has a vertical body crack which i U-shaped and goes from one side to the other but does not extend to the neck. There is wear to the gilt and the terracotta, particularly on one vase. The smudging is splashed gilt, this does not appear on the less worn vase, which is in altogether better condition with no real issues.
