Rare shagreen and mahogany fall and rise drinks cabinet, circa 1925-35, retailed by John Bagshaw & Sons, Liverpool, of rectangular form, green stained and inlaid with bone linear decoration, opening at the top to reveal a rising mahogany tray for glasses, raised on tapered square section legs with brass ball feet, width 46cm, depth 38.5cm, height 82cm

More Information

There is some fading to the green staining of the shagreen throughout the top and particularly around the legs. The hinged top is good. The side panels are raised in places with cracks to the shagreen; this is mostly on the right hand panel (see images) and on the rear panel. There is a section of bone missing on top of the rear right leg. The legs are generally slightly bowed. There is a section of shagreen missing on the front right leg and the rear left lower leg. There is discolouration around the feet and degradation to the surface finish of the metal feet. Inside, the raising mechanism works and also closes smoothly. There is no key. There is some water damage on the inside cover. No further damage detected.
