George III silver lidded ice bucket, by Rebecca Emes and Edward Barnard, London 1813, later repousse engraved with hare coursing scenes to the body and foliate edging, gilded interior, and with lappet collars and twin reeded handles, over a reeded circular foot, height 26.5cm, weight approx. 1.25kg (40.2 troy ozs)

More Information

The base has a slight dent to the upper rim compressing the shape slightly out of round, the cover springing up slightly when placed. There has been a slight knock to the lappet edge of the cover resulting in a tiny split. The marks are on the inside of the cover, lion passant and date code are clear, only a partial maker's mark visible. The inside of the lid and the inside of the bucket are gilded. The mark on the body is just above the handle beneath the rim with a near complete maker's mark and all marks clearly visible. The silver throughout is of a good gauge. In our view the piece leans very slightly, probably due to the impact which caused the dent or compression.
